Vietnam Mil-Sim

First & Only Airsoft is dedicated to running Vietnam Airsoft Re-enactment events. These events have in-depth rules for the gaming, uniform requirements, communications, realistic period tactics and units. Every effort will be made to make the scenarios as realistic and true to historical accounts as possible, as well as emulating a Vietnam war experience – within the bounds of safety.

Here are the main areas that compose an event:

The Scenario:

Each event will be based on historical data relating to specific operations, battles, time-period and other events relevant to VAR. Extensive research will be made to ensure that we are true to this data. We would be hard pushed to re-create things exactly as they were, we just aim to provide a good scenario based around facts and then let the gamers play it out and see what happens. This means the outcomes maybe different to the real events. We want players enjoy themselves and we hope that by remembering this war we show respect to those who were there.

The Rules:

The rules for these events are very detailed. We would never usually consider implementing such a set of rules for Airsoft gaming, especially on an open day. The more complicated it gets, the harder games become to manage and the more likelihood there is that games will fall apart. This, however, is not a regular Airsoft event or an open day. You need to be aware that a lot of effort maybe involved to make the rules work. We expect players to play in the spirit of VAR and not to take advantage of the rules. Remember this is re-enactment as well as Airsoft. If you are unsure what this means then please contact the organisers.

Uniform/Dress Requirements

We try to create authenticity, but also appeal to a wider audience, thus dress should be as accurate as possible, but there is no need to be too particular about certain pieces of kit. There was great variation in what soldiers wore on the battle field and therefore we can reflect this in what the units wear at the events.

Please look carefully at the dress requirements in the rules sections as you will not be allowed to participate if you do not meet these requirements. There will be plenty of information on the forums to help you source the kit. It can be as cheap as £30 for an NVA load out (BDUs, Chest Rig and Headwear).

Communications

Communications will be a vital element in VAR. All communications need to look authentic. Communications will only be allowed to be used by certain troops such at RTOs. Command units may have radios as well as some base facilities. We will not provide communications and we request that you provide your own. Many players use PMR radios. These can be readily converted to have a handset receiver. Even if the radio is just put into a rucksack with a fake aerial coming out it will at least look the part. You could go as far as converting a PRC-10 to PMR (or make a replica PRC-10).

Comms will allow units to call in air-strikes and artillery strikes. You could call for a dust off or close air-support. You may want to give or receive orders or intel. There are many times you will want comms, so be prepared.

Weapons

We would like our players to use the following period accurate Airsoft weapons. (If you do not have any of the following and won't be able to get hold of one for the event, then we will allow you to use your current weapon. However you must make every effort to disguise it. Take off all modern attachments and use a scrim net or some other camouflage to disguise it.)

List:
M16, M16+203, Car-15, XM177, M653 or any other VN variant, M79, Blooper, M60, M1911A1, Shotguns, M14, M21, M1, AK47 and VN Variants, M40A1, M700 or other relevant rifles, Thompson, Grease Gun, 38 revolver, G3, Mac 10/11.

There were many more weapons and these too can be used. In reality only radio operators, officers, support gunners and grenadiers were allowed to carry side-arms. But since many soldiers in Vietnam acquired a side-arm, this can be up to the individual players or units.
